Everolimus 0.5 mg is an mTOR inhibitor used under strict medical supervision for:
Prevention of organ transplant rejection (kidney or liver) in combination with other immunosuppressants
Advanced kidney cancer (RCC)
Subependymal giant cell astrocytoma (SEGA) associated with tuberous sclerosis
Renal angiomyolipoma in tuberous sclerosis
Certain hormone receptor–positive breast cancers (as part of combination therapy)
Neuroendocrine tumors of the pancreas, GI tract, or lungs (depending on protocol)
It works by slowing abnormal cell growth and reducing immune activity.
Dose depends on medical condition, treatment plan, body response, and blood levels.
Often taken once daily, around the same time every day.
Dose adjustments are made based on blood tests, renal function, liver function, and other medications.
Only a specialist (oncologist or transplant physician) should set or adjust the dosage.
Common side effects may include:
Mouth sores or ulcers
Fatigue
Nausea
Swelling of legs
Acne or rash
Increased cholesterol or blood sugar
Low blood counts
More serious effects can occur depending on overall health and treatment duration. Any unusual symptoms should be reported to a doctor immediately.
Take the tablet whole with water; do not crush or chew.
Take at the same time daily, with or without food (but be consistent).
Avoid grapefruit or grapefruit juice, as it interferes with the medicine.
Regular blood tests are required to monitor drug levels and organ function.
Follow all instructions given by your doctor or transplant/oncology team.
