Medical Uses

Efavirenz is an antiretroviral medicine used for the treatment of HIV-1 infection. It works by blocking the reverse transcriptase enzyme, helping to:

• Reduce viral load

• Improve immune function (increase CD4 count)

• Prevent disease progression

• Reduce risk of HIV-related complications

It is always used in combination with other antiretroviral medicines (ART).

Typical Adult Dose

• 600 mg once daily, usually taken at bedtime

• Taken on an empty stomach to reduce side effects

Part of Combination Therapy

Efavirenz is combined with medicines such as tenofovir, lamivudine, or emtricitabine depending on the treatment plan.
