Afatinib 30 mg is a targeted cancer therapy known as a tyrosine kinase inhibitor (TKI). It is used under oncology supervision for the treatment of:
Non–Small Cell Lung Cancer (NSCLC) with specific EGFR mutations
Squamous Cell Carcinoma of the lung (in certain treatment lines)
It works by blocking abnormal EGFR signaling, which slows or stops the growth of cancer cells.
Exact dose must be prescribed by an oncologist.
Usual starting dose: 40 mg once daily
In some situations (side effects, age, tolerance), doctors prescribe 30 mg once daily
Dose adjustments are based on patient tolerance and clinical response
Never change the dose without medical advice.
Common side effects include:
Diarrhea
Skin rash
Mouth sores
Dry skin
Nail infections
Fatigue
Decreased appetite
More serious effects can occur based on medical history. Any unusual or severe symptoms must be reported to the treating doctor.
Take once daily, at the same time each day.
Swallow the tablet whole with water. Do not crush or chew.
Can be taken with or without food.
Stay well hydrated, especially if diarrhea occurs.
Regular follow-ups and blood tests are required during treatment.
